With the boom of the Indian car market, Ford wants to start their new (second) plant in India. According to the source, the Ford auto industry has approached the Gujarat government for the place required for new plant establishment. Ford announced about their new models that will be introduced for the Indian market by 2015, and they have been suggested the site at Sanand in Gujarat.
Ford wants to invest $900 millions for new plant in India which is slated to open in 2014, with the 5000 workforce. Ford already has one plant in Chennai, which is producing the small cars like Fiesta, Endeavours and sport utility cars. The Gujarat government has given the place for the new plant, 400 acres at Sanand, which is 40 kilometers away from the Ahmedabad.
Ford aims to introduce more cars from its global portfolio, Asian Pacific and African markets into the India. They want to tap the growing domestic car manufacturing sector in India. Ford is also focusing on the global market share, they want to achieve 50% of global market share.
