Information on the Collision Warning System with Automatic Braking

This is the updated technology which is released in the year 2006, that helps to avoid the rear-end collisions. This system automatically activates the brakes when it detects the potential crash, by using a radar and a camera to detect the vehicles in the front of the car. The cameras have the range of 180 feet (55m), while the radars have the range of 492 feet (150m). The warning systems can be adopted to match the driving styles of the individuals and conditions and it can be changed in the car settings menu with a choice of three sensitivities.

Radar-based system which comprises the warning collision and adoptive cruise control with active braking is the future technology in the cars.

How it works?
This system includes adoptive cruise control (ACC) to maintain a steady distance in between the car and the vehicle in the front, even if the traffic flow is uneven. And when the ACC is not in use, the distance alert is used to help to maintain a safe distance in front of the vehicle. This alerts the driver by using a red warned light and also gives audible signals in such situations to allow the driver to react and avoid the accidents. If the risk of the collision increases, then automatically the brakes are activated.

When the deceleration is required then the system automatically de-throttles the engine and applies the brakes and if necessary, it also applies the foundation brakes. The responses from the engine transmission and the anti-lock braking system are coordinated through the communications across the J1939 data network.

This system includes anti-lock brakes either with a Roll Stability Control or with Electronic Stability Control. The anti-lock brakes keep wheels from locking up during the emergency braking situations and the RSC/ESC includes wheel speed sensors and a lateral accelerometer to determine the critical rollover thresholds due to lateral forces, which reduces the throttle and applies the engine and foundation brake to rapidly decelerate the vehicle which helps to prevent a potential rollover.

Cars equipped with this collision warning system, can avail auto insurance with low premiums.
