Illicit Drug Consumption by U.S Teens

A drug is substance, which absorbed into the body and alters the body function, but consumption of illicit drugs is harmful for drug abuser. Its consumption could result in body problem, injury or imprisonment.

Drug consumption is common in all age of youth. Youth aged from 12 to 25 are major addicts of illicit drugs. According to NSDUH data report, 14.2 percent of 12 years age teens had used illicit drugs during the past years. Addiction of Marijuana is the common for these groups. More than 25.8 million individual were using Marijuana for addiction. In 2008, approximately 5.3 million individual reported cocaine addiction, 850,000 reported Methamphetamine use and 453,000 reported for heroine use.

In 2008, 19 percent youth of aged 12 to 17 were addicted to illicit drug whereas only 10.3 percent of adults of aged 26 and older reported for illicit drug use. As per the NADT (National Drug Threat Assessment) a report, 2.9 million individual tried illicit drug or a prescription drug for the first time. 56.6 percent of new adductor reported that Marijuana was the first illicit drug for them. Tranquilizers, ecstasy, inhalants, cocaine and stimulants are identified as first drugs used by initiates.

Therefore, there is a huge consumption of drugs by U.S teens. This drug addiction would result as loss to their future and life. Good thing is that addiction rates were stable than 2007 rates.
