Different Types of Paintings

Painting is the most common and famous visual art. The process of presenting a person or a place or an event or a creative thought of the painter on the surface by using different colors and paint is called painting. The surface on which the painter paints can be of paper, wood, glass, cardboard, etc. And the paint used can be of different types such as water, acrylic, oil paints, etc.

Depending on the style, method, materials, etc that are used in paintings it is divided into many types. Some of the important types of paintings are:

  • Abstract painting
    This is the most popular kind of painting. It is a kind of painting that does not have a subject or shape. It is a production of painters free thinking that does not represent anything in particular, but still attracts the audience. It represents the painters’ expressions or inner feelings.
  • Cubism painting
    Cubism is a type of painting that shows a single dimensional figure in multi-dimensions. This style of painting started in the early years of 20th century by a famous painter Pablo Picasso.We can observe different geometrical shapes in this kind of paintings.
  • Surrealism painting
    Surrealism painting is a painting that looks impossible and looks like a painting of a dream. Surrealism painting looks very strange and weird.It does not convey any meaning or theme to the viewers, but shows the creativity of the painter.
  • Impressionism painting
    Impressionism painting is a painting of a location or a place or a situation. It is like a rough shape of a location or a situation with very minor improvements to it with colors and shadings.This painting is meaningful, but not as same as the real view.
  • Post-impressionism painting
    The painting of a location or a place or a situation with perfect shape is called post-impressionism painting. It includes everything of a situation or a place along with small things and shadows as well.
  • Realism painting
    This style of painting is opposite to surrealism painting. Realism painting shows exactly how an object or a person or a place looks like in real. It portrays the exact picture of the view and makes it look like a photo copy of reality.
  • Pointillism painting
    This type of painting needs a lot of practice. Painting is done by using small dots or points. Painter does not use lines or any shapes, but just the points to make a full painting.
  • Primitivism painting
    This is the simplest of all kinds of paintings. Primitivism painting looks immatured with imperfect shapes. They look as if they are not done by the professional painters.

Whatever kind of painting it may be, there is an inner beauty in all the paintings and conveys the expressions and thoughts of the painter to the audience.
