What is Drug Dependance and Know its Effects

Drug dependance is substance addiction which is characterized by the physical or psychological need for the drug. Drug dependance is the compulsive use of drugs despite its dangerous effects. In this situation a person needs drugs to function normally. Abruptly stopping the drug leads to withdrawal symptoms. Drug abuse can lead to drug dependence and the people who use drugs for pain relief may become dependent on it.

One of the reason for an individual to become drug dependent is his genes. Peer pressure, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and environmental stress etc can be the factors for drug dependance. Children also become dependent on the drugs if their parents are drug abusers. People who have depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia, low self esteem and the people who live in stressful lifestyle, culture where there is a high social acceptance of drug use etc. are likely to abuse drugs or become more dependent on drugs.

Effects of the Drug Dependance:
Drug dependance can increase the risk of various cancers. Hepatitis, pulmonary emboli malnutrition, or respiratory infections, are caused by drug use by injection. There is a risk of HIV infection through shared needles. Drug dependance may also cause problems related with memory and concentration. Brain changes from drug abuse include paranoia, hallucinations, memory problems, aggression, depression, seizures, stroke and brain damage etc. Physical effects caused by the drugs are permanent and are not reversible, for example, infertility caused by steroids and liver or kidney damage by many other drugs. Drugs that act quickly on the brain may cause rapid loss of consciousness or death. Drug dependance decreases ability to pay attention in the teens and they become less interested in doing any work at home or school.
